Blois, France – Italian driver, Max Papis, has entered for the race on the Tours Speedway (Indre- et-Loire) on 6-7 July, and for the Italian round on his home turf on the Monza circuit on 28-29 September. Max is an eclectic driver who has racked an impressive set of results in all categories of motor sport, and he is the perfect example of a European racer competing at the top level in the NASCAR International Series. He was seduced by the success and the enthusiasm aroused by Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series with the European fans and wishes to participate to races with #33 OverDrive car.

43-year-old Max Papis from Mooresville (NC, USA) is a works Chevrolet driver with the prestigious team, Richard Childers Racing. He has accumulated unique experience throughout the world crowned with success in numerous categories of motor sport. Although he has been living in the United States for a long time, he has not forgotten his roots and keeps a weather eye on what’s happening in Europe. Thus, after his meeting with the Euro-Racecar NASCAR, he wanted to take up the challenge of racing on the Tours oval and then on home turf at Monza in Italy, where he made his debut as a young driver.

“I’m really excited to participate to two races in the Euro-Racecar NASCAR championship, Max Papis said. I met Jérôme Galpin and discovered the series a couple of years ago and I’ve been very impressed by the direction they were going. I will bring with me all my passion and knowledge of the US NASCAR racing. As the European driver with most start in NASCAR, I’m very proud to bring a little piece of United States to Tours and Monza. I’m looking forward to be part of a NASCAR Euro series race and be part of the development both in the racing side, media and public. I can’t wait to be there !”

At the beginning of 1996 after racing in Formula 1, Papis crossed the Atlantic to contest the CART Championship, the North American single-seater series. He competed in it until 2003 taking part in 113 races, winning three, setting two pole positions and scoring 11 top-3 finishes. He continued driving single-seaters on an occasional basis and raced in the legendary Indy 500 twice (2002 and 2006). In his early years in the USA he built up a solid reputation and won the 2002 Daytona 24 Hours followed by the Grand-Am title two years later. He also did a stint in endurance racing in a works Corvette in which he competed in five of his 7 Le Mans 24 Hours (with five top-3 category finishes) plus well-know events like the Sebring 12 Hours and the Petit Le Mans in which he won the GT category on several occasions.

Since 2006 he has been driving mostly in the national NASCAR Series. He is today the European driver with most Nascar starts in the history of the sport. In 2010, Richard Childres took him on and today he is part of the program in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He is also one of the reference for NASCAR drivers on road course circuits. Since his swap to the most popular form of motor sport in the United States, “Mad Max” Papis has started 35 races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, 13 in Nationwide and 44 in the Camping World Truck Series. He will be a major attraction at the big event on the Tours Speedway in a field, with the addition of american Rick Crawford and Giles Thornton, that already looks like being an exceptional one!
